About the project

Background

The COVID-19 epidemic showed the unpreparedness of information systems supporting infectious disease surveillance in the Czech Republic. The capacity and capabilities of the information systems proved insufficient in response to the evolving health situation. Some existing procedures and systems could not be used, as the COVID-19 epidemic had a completely different dynamic and scope than what they were originally designed for. Thus, the pandemic has exposed the weaknesses of the existing processes and information systems providing healthcare agendas, including the problem of security and sustainability of the implemented solutions.

Aim of the project

The aim of the SCOPE-IS project is to create an early warning system against infectious diseases that is:

  • Sustainable
  • Standardised
  • Automated
  • Electronic

For whom is the system intended?

  • The Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic
  • Public health authorities
  • State administration
  • Local governments

General objectives

  • To innovate information systems for infectious disease monitoring
  • To develop methodological materials for the upgraded information system
  • To create a new automated Early Warning System
  • To implement educational activities for target groups
  • To create an Information Portal

The SCOPE-IS project builds on the continuous and long-term professional activity of the consortium members and is designed to complement and expand the existing infectious disease surveillance systems in the Czech Republic and at the international level.

It also:

  • Builds on the experience of the COVID-19 epidemic
  • Develops existing information systems
  • Complements the projects of the National Recovery Plan of the Ministry of Health
  • Improves international cooperation and reporting
  • Increases the interoperability with EU systems
  • Enables faster response to health threats

The SCOPE-IS project contributes to more effective monitoring and management of infectious diseases, thus strengthening the protection of public health in the Czech Republic and within the EU.
